The first episode quite hit the audience's expectation as it only reached 5.6% nationwide (AGB). Some viewers speculated that the reason why the show didn't clicked as expected was because of the question 'What is it about this show?".
Ever since this show was introduced to the public, viewers were quite confused about its theme. A lot also compared the show to SBS' 'Running Man' as it also has a one girl member Song Ji Hyo.
UEE is the only girl member of 'Barefoot Friends' and was expected to put some spark to the group.
For me, as the episode starts I didn't felt UEE that much. She was somewhat quiet and aloof. All she did was laugh over her co-members' jokes. Though what I like about her is she never complains. She did what she was told to do and she delivered. No more no less.
However at the latter episodes, I found her really improving with her communication and relation with other members. This is a good sign I suppose.
About other members, of course they were born loud and noisy especially Kang Ho Dong. There's no much needed for this guy to sell. His talkativeness alone will do. But too much is bad. Sometimes his noisy-ness eats out other members' part. Plus, KHD has too many shows going on right now. I believe he has another show in KBS. Maybe that's why Korean viewers were kinda full of this guy. Nonetheless, I think KHD is still the main character in this show.
So after watching previous episodes, I can now conclude that this show is all about 'Culture' and 'Living' in a specific country. The challenge is, how will you able to survive a day in a foreign country? Answer is, live a day like a local citizen. But the twist is, you have to earn for your living.
The theme and idea is quite unique, the problem is the 'Execution'. How will you execute the idea without making your viewers bored. The casts actually has the key to execute, but how about the editors? No matter how hard and funny the members did and the editor didn't manage to show it to the public, it's useless.
Anyways, forget the editors. What I noticed is the members are slowly getting close to each other.
Take this for example. If you will watch episode 1 again you will see awkwardness between the members especially with the team Mui Ne.
A Singer, MC, Comedian and Idol in one variety could be a good combination. It's just a matter of time and unity. If there's unity, I think it won't be hard for them to please their viewers. Nothing's too much and too less, just the right amount to keep this show moving its course and a better editing job.
If this can be done then we won't have to worry about ratings anymore. I guarantee that.
